Scientists Working on Eco-Friendly Windows Made from Wood

windows made from wood

Wood is a classic building material which has been used for thousands of years… but not often for windows, given that it can’t really be seen through. However, scientists now say it could be used to replace glass.

Researchers at Wallenberg Wood Science Center in Sweden have created a new kind of see-through wood!

They’ve also coated it in a special material called polyethylene glycol or PEG. The substance, which is also found in toothpaste, makes the wood a good insulator which means it is able to keep heat in or out.

So, the newly treated wood is now not only see-through but also has amazing heat capturing properties.

Learn more about how windows made of wood could be the next eco-friendly alternative.

Sitting at the heart of the new network, the West Midlands is already feeling the benefits of HS2, and that trend is set to continue as major construction begins later this year.

30,000 people will play a role in designing and delivering the new backbone to Britain’s railway, and HS2 is eager to ensure that local people, under-represented and disadvantaged groups are amongst them.

This is an important movement, if you’d like to know more about this, head over to Gov.
