Most-needed construction skills named

construction news januaryNine industry organisations have collaborated to determine the construction trades suffering most in the UK’s continued skills shortage.

The organisations – Association for Consultancy & Engineering, Build UK, Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA), Construction Plant-hire Association, Construction Products Association, Federation of Master Builders, Highways Term Maintenance Association, National Federation of Builders and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) – have published the list of 18 skills below and urged that the industry works more closely together to tackle the shortage crisis and accelerate recruitment for these essential roles.

Construction to start on stalled Southampton tower

construction news januaryThe developer will now deliver the next two phases of the £500m Centenary Quay site which also includes 103 new low-rise homes.

Over 850 apartments and homes have already been completed at the site where work stalled in 2016.

Work has been able to restart following a funding deal with Homes England.

The Enquirer understands enabling works are underway with the main build set to start this Spring.

Investors target rental home deals as construction picks up

construction news januaryInstitutional investors are continuing to pour money into the UK property market’s build-to-rent sector, as research shows that development in cities across the country is set to overtake London.

The analysis from estate agency Savills was published as Legal & General Investment Management said its £3bn UK property fund had struck its first build-to-rent deal, agreeing to buy a site in Chelmsford, Essex, that will contain 104 apartments.
